Sell Out : Pure Malaysian Comedy.

I went out yesterday to have fun around Mid Valley by myself.

I made the decision of going to Mid Valley at 3 in the evening so took the RapidKL U80 around 4 something. Reached KL Sentral around 5. Missed the train which en route to Seremban twice. It was not because I 'tak sedar' or anything, it was just too many people trying to bustle their way into the train. It was so hectic down at Platform 6. Should guessed that it was end-office hour so people were going home.

When I reached Mid Valley, I remembered that the degree B. Ed. TESL entry interview is just around the corner. So, I guessed I might as well check out new outfits and shoes for the interview. Talk about shopping... I walked around for nearly one hour until I reached GSC on the top floor. I was approached by this man, sorta, who asked me awkward questions like, "where do you live/from?" bla.. bla.. bla.. I jogged myself away. Pretty scary that fella.*sigh*

At GSC, I took about 15 minutes deciding on what to watch (Watching movies was not my plan at all coming to Mid Valley). There were mixed feelings where on one side wanted to watch Wolverine while the other half wanted to watch Star Trek. After the crazy internal war between both of the feelings, I decided on Star Trek. But weirdly, I opened my mouth, to my own confusion, at the counter, "Sell Out, please. Just one person,". I had to cover my ears to the rambles and scrambles of my inner shadows started to scream and shout about the movie. Bought popcorn and Coke, I sat alone in my row, G9, watching the trailers. God~ There are like, great trailers but you know, sometimes trailers can be deceiving.

People, watch Sell Out! (or $e11.0u7!). It's the first Malaysian indie movie which is a MUSICAL! Yeo Joon Han would say that his film is not a musical, “It has only four songs!”. Believe it or not, apart from writing, directing and producing, he also wrote all the songs of the movie himself. It was quirky and cute, especially Peter Travis who works his charm with his accent.

The Synopsis:

Her name is Rafflesia Pong (Rafflesia = largest flower in the world, which reeks of animal carcass; Pong = stink). She’s a bottom-ranking arts show host who’s disillusioned with “those over-rated underachievers we call artists.” He’s Eric Tan (Eric = Eric, Tan = typical Chinese surname), a product designer who’s just about to learn that it doesn’t pay to be creative. They both work for FONY, a multinational conglomerate whose mission statement, copied from a Taiwanese company, is to be original.

In the face of such pressure, will Eric and Rafflesia retain their artistic integrityor will they finally sell out to fame, fortune or some other nasty thing that also starts with “F”?

I rather not write about myself in third person because I don’t want everyone to think I’m a vain person. Besides, I don’t really have any experience writing a biography about anyone, let alone writing about me but I’ll try my best. I have to admit that before writing “About Syafie Mustafa”, I had to draft out what I’m going to write because there are so many stuff about me until I don’t know where to start. I’ve asked my friends about what should I write so I got some ideas. Hmm… Okay, so here goes nothing.

I want to write about my name first. The full name given from my parents is Muhammad Syafiruddin bin Mustafa but due to inexplicably errors of pronunciations and confusions, I shortened it to Syafie Mustafa but still retaining my full name for official purposes. Still, pronunciations are still the boo-boos I got from those who first time meeting me in public. So, I’m clearing it now and hoping that people can call me out correctly. For my full name, it’s Sha-Fee-Ru-Dean, not Sha-Ri-Fu-Dean. Also for my friendlier and shorter label, Syafie is pronounced as Sha-Fee, not Sha-Fee-E. You should notice there’s a hyphen on the ‘e’ where it should give you an idea that it is pronounced longer but simply from my perspectives, the hyphen ‘e’ is just a decoration. But nowadays, people and friends are in such a hurry they shortened my name to just Fie (pronounced Fee). =] Hope that cleared everything up.

Okay. Next is the historically me.

I was born on 30th April, 1990 under the stars of Taurus and Horse (Chinese Zodiac) at then named Hospital Besar Kangar but now Hospital Tuanku Fauziah. I’m the second child of five in the family. My late dad was a Kedahan and my mum is a Sarawakian. I was raised in the area of USJ 8 where I lived in the flats of Goodyear Court 7. Although my mum said that we used to live at Malay Subang Village but I was too young to remember.

I received my early education when I was six at Brainchild Kindergarten which was located not far from home. I started my primary education a year later at Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Jenis (Cina) Sungai Way. But then, Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Seafield 3 was starting to undergo construction right in front of my home and I jabbered to my mum I wanted to be transferred there. It was 1998 when the school had reached its completion so I was transferred to the school the next year, 1999. It was this year that I started to wear glasses and oh boy, how I looked very geeky at that time. =P

I can’t remember when we moved out from Goodyear Court 7 to Pangsapuri Meranti in USJ 1 but probably during my secondary years. I was Form 1 and schooled in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) USJ 8, rode bicycle back and forth home through the factories yard.

Upon reaching the year end of my Form 2, my dad quitted smoking and he literally got sick.

This was the starting and turning point of my life started changing. I started to be more concern and alert about family matters earlier than the rest of my peers. I was aware at that moment; my family was in a financial turmoil and in debts with almost everyone. My mum sent my elder brother and lil’ brothers back to my dad’s hometown in Kedah (My sister was not yet born, she was born a few months before dad fell sick). I was told to go back to Kedah, along with my brothers but I refused and stayed with my mother. Dad was admitted to the Hospital University Kuala Lumpur.

2005 was the year I could consider myself as a young adult. I took care of my newborn baby sister while my mum trying to settle problems that fell all over us. March 2005, I was sent back to Sarawak but due to further difficulties I faced there, I lasted only till July 2005. Schooled in Sekolah Menengah Bantuan St. Joseph for 3 weeks and then transferred to SMK Tun Abang Haji Openg but on early August 2005, I asked my aunt, my mum’s sister, to send me back to Kedah, whereby then, my dad was already there along with my mum and goodness, there were so many things had happened which were repulsive and painful; I rather not share it here. I finished my secondary education here in Kedah, at SMK Megat Dewa.

Then…

I went to National Services which confirmed my denying rebellion side is true but I’ve changed a lot after the NS experience. I furthered my studies to UiTM Shah Alam, taking Foundation TESL.

Foundation TESL. It was very fascinating experience.

I couldn’t explain words for words about Foundation TESL because the experience on tackling the course was priceless, memorable and educating. The 1-year-long-2-semesters course taught me so much about life, about friendships, about love, about mindsets and future possibilities. I could say that the previous sentence you just read was just a minor impact of the course on my life; Foundation TESL is the best and, because of some experiences, worst thing that ever happened to me but I’m hoping for the better future. This course influenced me to pursue my dreams to become an Eduprenuer.

(Major pinpoint incidents during Foundation TESL, chronologically: alter ego takeover during both semesters / broke up with girlfriend during 1st semester: 2nd day of Raya / dad died on 16th day of Raya and it was during exam week; I was about to have lunch at the café when I received the news / self isolation from friends after dad died / 5-on-1 gang attack on me because of best friend early 2nd semester: because of rumours and the purpose of trying to defend my best friend, I was misunderstood and for the first time, I refused to imploy self-defence against them / geramji attitude towards friends during 2nd semester / major self reality check and friends’ confrontations, mid 2nd semester / positive outcome of self : during final paper, 2nd semester; marking the end of Foundation TESL)

So there you have it. History and education background of me.

What else? I’ve wrote about my life and education background. Okay, my traits of personality, hobbies and ambition, perhaps? Err… I’m not really good at explain myself. I’m quite the unpredictable sort of person but very organised. I know I’m a good listener and I can give advices to people. =]

I love to read motivation and self-help books rather than story books. But I do read story books; sci-fiction, fantasy and romance comedy. Magazines? I read any magazines about techno gadgets, cameras, games, entertainment, health and fitness. For newspapers, I read The Star more than The News Straits Times. I love the Internet. =P I read, exercises, online and do reviews. I used to send my views to The Stars but I’ve stopped to concentrate more in my projects on the Internet.

Everybody has their own ambitions, hopes and dreams. Some are fulfilled, some just laid among the stars. It would be great to have all of the stars accomplished, wouldn't it? But I'll reach my stars, by hook or by crook, I'll get there. =] On the second thought, I'll get there as positive as I could without hurting anyone. =D Hey, wanna see my list of stars I want to get? I've divided them into short term and long term. Short term means I'm getting them as soon as I possibly could and Long term is the opposite: in years to come. =p

Short Term ~~Memory Lost~~ Goals

I love these babies so much! I don't care about what others are saying, of how good or how bad they are, I still want these two beauties. I'm still using my beloved Nokia 1200 which kinda ~~wrecked~~ old and the paint is ruined but nevertheless, it rocks! =] I didn't snap the latest photo of it but will do. My Nokia 1200 have sustained loads of ~~sexual abuse~~ collateral damage beyond imaginable (If you're a friend who always hang out with me, you know what I mean.. =P) but still it can be used, though. I need a new phone for new numbers. I don't know the actual price for both phones.. A friend of mine would say you can get a cheaper ones nowadays... And I don't know whether N93i is still available or not. Hehehe...

2. Sony Alpha DSLR-A350

Sony Alpha A350... An Eye Candy.
*gasps* Sony A350. It's a great stuff for beginners, if I'm not mistaken. I just realised during my first semester in Foundation TESL, I take awesomely nice pictures. Not pictures of myself but pictures of friends and ~~chicks~~ surroundings. So I'm thinking of taking another step higher. Currently, I'm using EzyShot E710.

Okay, Let's back to the story. Sony A350. This baby have a nice 14.2-megapixel resolution for beautiful shoots and a tiltable live view LCD. The Tiltable live view LCD makes photography virtually capable from any horizontal angles or should I say, from any angles at all. High and low position shots are clearly easier with it. Love that. The center-cross 9-point autofocus system in Sony A350, with Sony's exclusive Eye-Start activation, reduces missed shots by automatically focusing the camera for you as soon as you put your eye to the viewfinder. Neat, huh? =D It also have a neat stabilizer if you have shaky hands.

The reason why I wanted a digital camcorder is because I wanted to produce ~~porn~~ indie movies or just some ~~gay~~ casual reality series. There's some options to be picked from. I've shortlisted three Canon products. The XH A1S, XM2 and HG20. Seriously, I have some ideas about these products but I'm not really good at evaluating them so I'll just show some pictures. =P

If I'll get a camcorder, I'll be needing a multimedia editor. After many blurry ~~cursing~~ searches, I've found these two glorious products. Well, the Net people are buzzing that the best is to get a MacBook Pro. Okay, okay. But I'm scared of berhijrah (immigrating) to Mac. I'm not used to it, yet. Then I was urged to check out Dell. Dell XPS M1730 This is perfect for those who are into gaming and multimedia editing. There's too much to talk about Dell XPS M1730 so check it out. Google it out. =]

There's a particular argument between Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premier. Lol.. I don't really know which one is the best but I've used Adobe Premier before and it works fine with me but I wanna try Final Cut Pro. So, I'll get them both.

Seven to eight average sized people can fit into the Exora. Guess what? It got a built in TV! =P I know, I know; What's the fuss about that? Hey, It's my nation's car. I'm having a patriotic pride about it. =P There's six colours: Genetic Silver, Tranquility Black, Blue Haze, Solid White, Gaia Blue (new) and Pyrite Brown (new) This Pyrite Brown looked like GOLD! =P

Franchising! Maybe a branch in KL.

What's an Edupreneur? I created the term. Edupreneur is a noun. Edupreneur is a person who organizes, operates, and assumes the risk for a business venture alongside of being an educator, one trained in teaching; a teacher, a specialist in the theory and practice of education or possibly an administrator of a school or an educational institution. People said it will be a tough and rough life to handle two careers at once. Well, that's what people said. Humankind have extraordinary capacity and capability, why not use it to the fullest? Einstein said that ordinary man uses only 10 percent of his brain. Why not use it more than that? =]

Estimated Time To Achieve: 2025 (With All I've Got!)

In conclusion, all of the above are my stars and if God's willing, I'll grab them all. There are some minor long term goals; bringing my family back to the city and getting and preparing my lil' brothers and lil' sister for universities. Before this, I specifically said I wanted to be financially free but then I thought it otherwise. Money can't buy you everything. Just get what you can get and make the best of what you have got. Dreams are made to be fulfilled, not to be forgotten.
